Project: Union-Street — “Radio-Night” Concert Series (2014–2016)
The first concert series, presented by Project: Union-Street, ran from 2014 through 2016 and became one of the most vibrant showcases for live music in the Metro Detroit area. Hosted at the historic Token Lounge in Westland, Michigan, the series brought together an impressive array of national acts, local favorites, independent artists, and solo performers, offering a diverse and ever-evolving stage for musicians of all styles and backgrounds.
Founded and organized by Luis Hirschlieb—virtuoso guitarist, lead vocalist, and founding member of Electric Space Odyssey—Project: Union-Street emerged as both a creative collective and a community initiative. Hirschlieb worked tirelessly to build Project: Union-Street into a recognizable and respected music brand, dedicated to fostering collaboration, artistic growth, and mutual support among musicians. His vision was not only to promote performances, but to create a self-sustaining ecosystem where artists could experiment, connect, and thrive.
The Radio-Night series embodied that vision perfectly. Each event served as a gathering point for both established and emerging artists, encouraging new bands to form, temporary collaborations to flourish, and existing acts to discover new audiences. Project: Union-Street cultivated a network that blurred the boundaries between artist, and community, helping to redefine what a local music scene could be. The atmosphere was one of inclusion and experimentation—where the spotlight was shared, and creative risks were celebrated.
Beyond its musical scope, Project: Union-Street evolved into a creative identity that represented passion-driven independence and innovation. As its network of artists, innovators, and artistic contributors expanded, collectively – the community itself began to experiment not only with music but with electronics design, and technology. This natural evolution reflected the merging of artistic and technical disciplines—musicians, designers, and engineers working side by side to bring imaginative ideas to life. The collaborative environment allowed innovation and teamwork to flow freely, leading to the development of numerous hardware and software prototypes. These ranged from conceptual musical devices and interactive lighting systems to early-stage multimedia platforms that foreshadowed the creative directions the collective would later pursue.
By uniting creators across genres and skill sets—from progressive rock and metal to indie, alternative, and experimental—Radio-Night became a living archive of artistic diversity and creative curiosity. Its concerts were more than performances; they were gatherings of a movement that valued authenticity, exploration, and shared purpose.
As Project: Union-Street continued to grow, its influence reached far beyond live music. The same collaborative principles that fueled Radio-Night inspired new ventures and partnerships that bridged the worlds of art, music, and technology. In 2020, Project: Union-Street officially merged with The CollabGadget Co., a tech/R&D-startup and holding company founded by Luis Hirschlieb in 2018 and later incorporated in 2025. This merger marked the beginning of a new era—uniting the grassroots creativity of Project: Union-Street with a broader platform for interdisciplinary innovation.
Today, as part of The CollabGadget Co. family—which includes forward-thinking subsidiaries such as Holotone, Cupcake & Quill, and others—Project: Union-Street’s legacy continues to thrive.
